Wildfires

We are actively monitoring the spread of wildfires throughout Manitoba. Our teams are working to mitigate the impacts of the fires to keep our customers connected.

Currently, some cell towers in evacuated areas are impacted but the region is partially supported by nearby sites. Customers in neighbouring communities may notice some cellular congestion; however, we have deployed crew members and generators where it is safe to do so, to help manage services.

What we are doing to mitigate service impacts:

  • We have activated our internal emergency response team
  • We are working closely with the provinces, EMOs and power companies to provide the most effective support during this wildfire emergency to keep customers informed and connected
  • We have crews and resources like generators on standby to be deployed when safe to do so
  • Wireless sites are configured to maximize battery life in case of commercial power outages
  • We are planning ahead for potential impacts so that we can begin repairs as soon as we are cleared to work

As fires start to abate, our teams will assess the damage to our infrastructure; we do expect there will be some potential impacts to services in the coming days. Please check back here for ongoing updates.

What is causing current customer service impacts:

  • Loss of commercial power and damage to fibre cables supporting cell sites Wireless congestion
